I have a D40 now and figure I can get at least 2 bills for it used, maybe more if I sell the kit lens w/ it... I have about $375 banked and I could probably get a refurb from adorama for $650 .. or maybe a used body even cheaper on the bay.. so what do you guys think? is the D90 still relevant or should I be looking at something different now.. I've been very happy w/ my D40 BTW... what caused this spark of interest was that I just sold my mini-dv camcorder so I need something w/ video.. so I thought that the D90 would be good to use as a temp video source plus its also an upgrade to my D40 at the same time.. so what do you think....?

I agree D7000, I have a D90. D7000 newer, better, if you get a D90, you will soon want a D7000, so just get it now.

No question. IMO, you'd be better off by far if you delay gratification 'till you put away enough for the D7000. The D90 is a really good body (I bought one for my daughter, and she's over 12,000 clicks) but the D7000 is waaaaayyy better.

And to further tempt you toward the awesomeness . . . I copied this from B&H's listing for the D7000 "You’ll have 6 months with no payments. And no interest, if paid in full within 6 months. Otherwise, interest begins on the date of purchase."

Far be it from me to encourage fiscal irresponsibility though . . .mwink.gif

I upgraded a couple of months back from a D40 to the D7000. It was more than I wanted to spend at the time but I couldn't be happier now. Good luck!

I wouldn't get the D90 for video. It was the first DSLR with video, and the feature has been improved upon since then.

Ahh! The very idea I was thinking! nein, nyet, Non, NO! Not for video ...save it! D90 is a fine camera, but is old tech ( yes I own one), old! Use the D40 and wait until the Camera fairy lands and christens you the magical one...it'll happen: D7000 or better~

Yes try to get a D7000 if you can. The D90 is still a great camera though :)

That's a stupid oversight by both Nikon and Canon. It's not there. You need to download an exif reader like Opanda IExif. You should have this anyway. It's free, and there are lots of threads here on DGrin about it, and others like it.
