Over at dpreview.com they said "A spokesman for Adobe said that the program will be supported on the Mac in the 'near future'."
They are promoting Photoshop Elements with Premiere Elements, a sort of "media suite lite" for consumers. They are promoting this combo heavily on Windows because on the Mac, Apple has a monopoly in that area with the iApps. In 3.0, Elements was already different on Mac/PC because the Mac version hooked up to iPhoto and provided no photo organizer of its own. I guess they decided the platform needs were so different now that there was no longer any need to keep them on the same schedule, even. But that's just a guess.
