Just for fun, here in an alligator out sunning in Jungle Gardens on Avery Island. Wish I had a little softer light, and light on his eye, but no such luck this time! All comments and suggestions for improvement especially appreciated! Best, Pam
Ric, I am respectful of these guys, because they can move fast! Harry tells me they are rarely aggressive except during their mating seaon, which he adds, is now. But what can I say? I'm a city girl! Best, Pam
Love the pink mouth. Areas for improvement? Well I know Harry would like a squirrel in that mouth. :giggle
Thanks, Joel! My husband tells me they will eat absolutely anything, and that decades ago one alligator here even ate a Shetland pony who was drinking from a pond. Come to think of it, I haven't seen too many squirrels around here, so maybe . . . Best, Pam
Hope you were using a looooong lens. I love the way the pink of the mouth shows through the thin skin at the neck. thumb
Jack, I used a 400mm lens, and cropped the heck out of the picture. This city girl is not getting too close! My husband, Edmund, who has many, many alligator stories, said the same thing about the pink mouth. Best, Pam
Great looking picture Pam...great lighting...thats one huge mouth!
Thanks, Brian! Years ago (when we were all in college and thought ourselves bullet proof,) my husband's friend stuck his fist in a small alligator's mouth, saying, "Ah, this guy can't hurt me." It took all four of his friends to pry his hand out of that mouth! Best, Pam
I told you that gators were pussycats. Look at that smile he gave you. If they eat squirrels they can't be bad.
Excellent image.

Thank you, Harry! As a child, my husband had a canebreak rattlesnake for a pet (he lived in a cage, obviously). Edmund said that snake ate a LOT of squirrels. Best, Pam
