Night Football - Two Flash Monopod Setup

The only flash experience I have is in manual using triggers.

I have my monopod built with a bracket for two SB-800 flashes. I have a SC-29 cable from the camera to one of the flashes.

I have been playing with the manual and the flashes today and I can't seem to get things to fire correctly.

How should I be setting things up? I can't get both my flashes to fire and I am trying this indoors where there isn't a light reception issue.
  • Menu E3 (Flash control for built-in flash) set to Commander
  • I have both flashes set at REMOTE Group A channel 1
  • I have a SC-29 cable from the camera to one of the flashes

What am I doing wrong?

Thoughts?

Thanks,

MD

no cable with the way you have it setup, you need the popup to fire the remotes, both 800's should be on slave(remote).

i think what you wanted to do was to have the one 800 as a master and the other as a slave, then you would have to use the cable on the master unit, and the camera setting would not matter, this way if you are not line of sight from the popup, you will be line of sight between the two 800's, since they are only inches apart.

    Yergi,

I copied Randy's bracket and added another flash.

Here is Randy's setup and the great tutorial on why this is a way to go.
