I went to the local park and practiced some DOF shots with some birds, which are the first two. The third is just a neat landing shot, that I like personally.

As usual, you can click on these and view a really big version if you wish.

All 3 taken with my Tamron lens.
Comments and critique welcome.
Also: Which one is your favorite? Some of my friends said #3 is the best, but personally I like #1 the most.

Kithylin, I like #3 the best, because it is so dramatic, with great contrast between the black bird and the lighter water. Also, you stopped the motion of the bird's head and body, but the wings still give that feeling of landing. Best, Pam

Thanks for the comments. I had similar thoughts, and that's most of the reason I posted it. I just followed the subject from the edge of the water where it flew off, and watched where it was going to land, and snapped it as it was landing. I used aperture priority and it seemed to come out good. I'm still surprised at how well this older 2004 model camera can do so well at focus-tracking on moving objects.
