What a study in contrast. I get how they are insulating themselves from the outside world yet are part of this world. We can be so decadent.

It's a shame the shadows have blocked up a bit too much for my liking; I'd have liked to see a bit more detail in the shadows! ne_nau.gif

I'm actually getting artefacting in the shadows, as though Liz has tried to lift the blacks (does my monitor need recalibrating?)

    Love the shot! thumb.gif

I think I'm seeing that on my monitor actually; but there's also some weird stuff through the opening under the "Exit" sign, and around the post in the foreground…

Thanks swifteye, Will and Divamum for commenting.

This is an instance where I wish I had my 5d!
I took this with the cell as I didn't have my camera with me.
I really wanted to capture how they sort of huddled together, as swifteye said "Insulating themselves" against the outside world. I was also trying not to be obvious shooting them.
THat's not the first time I've seen the burqas in my neighborhood but it's still a rare sighting and it was just funny to see them in a hip clothing store because they are so fully covered.
I took about 6 shots this being the best.
My phone is usually very good in low light so I'm not sure why it had such difficulty with this one and i had to work quite a bit to work the shadows. In the end this is as good as it gets. Shame I didn't have a better camera with me, I also wish I had felt more comfortable shooting them, but I felt rude for doing it so ne_nau.gif.

I'm also seeing funky stuff in the blacks. You could fix that with a good noise reduction program or even with Photoshop itself, but I'm not sure it matters much unless you want to print it.

You got the huddled together part fine, but I don't see the hipness of the store coming through. Maybe a different angle would have helped, ne_nau.gif.

    :) no I haven't jumped. I Have both mwink.gif.
I was blessed with some seriously good fortune and acquired the 5D so I was able to still keep my Oly. I still do most of my street shooting with my Oly and my portrait work and family shots with the 5D, it's so awesome. I just went to a friends house this weekend, friends who are moving to AZ soon and got some lovely keepers that I wouldn't have been able to pull off with my Oly.

Matter of fact about a month from now I have my first paid portrait work for a hair salon coming up and I will be using the 5D! WAHOOOOO! all in natural light!

You're right it could be Walmart from the looks of it--it's H&M a hip but "affordable" store, and I managed to shoot it in the most unhip way possible, lol. THanks for pointing that out--that would have helped.

Really liking this one with the "silhouettes" contrasting with the rest of the scene.
