It's been forever since I have posted anything here in "people". My daughter and I played around in the light at my new home this weekend. She has been away working hard in her senior year of college.
Here are a few....
All shot with the 50D and 70-200 F2.8IS.
1- First two taken in existing light at the dining room table.
2-Two different edits...
3- This is nearly SOOC - Existing light in the garage - Where's Mitchell?:D
4-Hittin' the bricks - Open shade with a 580EX and 45 inch umbrella at camera left.
5-BW from the garage...

Looove the light in your new place.
Also, love the reflection in her eyes in 3... Blue sky!
I really, really love how your DoF in 4 makes those bricks look soft, like she is sinking into them.
Beeeeayutiful
Beautiful, as always - your lovely girl and the pictures!
Hey Lauren!!!
Thanks!:D

Thanks Andy!
...I think the shot is good enough to warrant the trouble of removing that stray hair. If only I could see that stuff before I pull the trigger!:D
Is it just me?

The indoor shots are really only a small taste of it....
The living/dining/kitchen area is all windows on the north and south walls. It sets up this scrumptious cross lighting anywhere in that part of the house during morning til noon hours. I've been waiting patiently for an opportunity to photograph in that lighting situation. We missed it by about 4 hours today and instead took advantage of one of those windows.
....ah and if I zoom in on the eye I'd be there elbows out...stood on a chair......in the zone!....
Ive had a lot of practice with this particular shot. I have done it over and over for senior shoots. The shallow DOF is crucial. Otherwise they get lost in the bricks. Thats an F4.0 shot @ 120mm. Its the type of shot that makes me want to move to full frame.
Sure miss all you folks.....

Hi Diva....
No need to pout.........Ive made use of similarly lit locations for years. Any good sized porch, overhang, or elevated highway overpass will do.....and without the mortgage!
This garage faces East. The afternoon sun was far off over the west side leaving the opening and abot 30 foot away from the opening in open shade. She stood just inside. For my tastes the light is a a tad flat, but still...theres something about the quality of it.

Natural selection is responsible for every living thing that exists.
D3s, D500, D5300, and way more glass than the wife knows about.
These images are excellent.
Love all of them.

They are all keepers, but if I had to chose, 1 & 3 are my favorites.

Granted, it makes it easier when you have a beautiful model, but the use of light along with the composition is most compelling.
Thanks for sharing.

Thanks...
She plans to use one or two of the shots we took Saturday to bolster her portfolio. She is entering yet another "model search" of some sort.
As for her last gig.....I think there are three or four billboards up now between Houma, La and New Orleans, La on which she is featured modelling jewelry. A Houma based studio did those photographs. Here's a link....

..as for senior photos..... Ill do some this year, but things are really slow. We moved away from the community where my kids went to school, and I am basically starting things anew.
....but stay tuned!!!!

I use the same rules of composition as any landscape photographer.....and the light in all but one of these is unadultered natural lighting.....
Get to shootin'

Well, that's a loss for the old community's kids, my friend.
Natural selection is responsible for every living thing that exists.
D3s, D500, D5300, and way more glass than the wife knows about.
These shots are very good and very nice work with the light.
I have always enjoyed the shots of her that show her personality best.
These are the shots I see missing from SO many young models portfolios.
Models will be chosen that have THE look but also because they look like they would be good to work with, so a couple personality shots are important to have in the portfolio.
Her modeling career sounds like it is just on the cusp of taking off, wishing her the best of luck.

I appreciate your insight.
The "modeling career" ( Icebear had it in quotes also ) is just an avenue for her to blow off steam. She isn't super serious about it, but it has been a diversion from the grind of her pre-med efforts. She has a semester and a half of THAT left....and then more school.....
