Undocumented Alien

Hi Y'all,

On a recent visit to the wetlands I saw a sight that would have terrified Tom Tancedo, Jan Brewer, and Lou Dobbs..... an undocumented bird!!!!

The bird in subject is the crested cara cara, the national bird of Mexico (aka - The Mexican Eagle).

We had a pair of cara caras before and they were both banded. The female however was injured, went into rehab but couldn't be released back into the wild. The male mourned his loss for about two seconds and found a new mate, an unbanded female cara cara.

This undocumented alien has no shame. Here she is assaulting a native born, red blooded USA turtle.

having no shame after her attack she sits on a fence and crows

As a side note. Under new proposed legislation by our state bozos in Tallahassee all of these photos would be possible felonies as the Duda Ranch is the background for the captures.

But in all seriousness, there's not a snowball's chance in hell this will go anywhere. It's like all the weird bills that Arizona floats that supersede federal laws. It's all political posturing.

I'd put that undocumented alien to work, Harry. :giggle

I've tried putting them to work but they are just impossible. They won't pose for anything less than 3 turtles.

As for that proposed legislation's chance's don't bet against it. We have the best state legislaure money can buy and the growers and farms have put their $ down. A few years back a van carrying farm workers crashed and killed a bunch of the workers. They would have survived but the van didn't have seat belts.

So they prepared a bill requiring those vans to have seat belts and holding the van contractor and the farm responsible. Sounds like a no brainer? The bill was held up for 2 years because one senator objected. Finally they amended the bill so that the farm owner would not be responsible and it passed. It turned out that the farm owner involved in the crash that led to the legislation was a close friend and large campaign contributer to the senator who delayed the bill for those two years.

I think they will amend that proposed law to remove the part about pictures from public land. Once that's done it probably will pass.

With all the craziness about which the congressnuts and wannabees bloviate, especially those who follow the ilk that is Tancredo, Brewer, Bachmann, my idiot governor Goodhair, I mean Perry, here in Texas, I am sure that the crested caracara will be targeted as a foreigner because it just looks so different. Although, the utter stupidity of it all is that it has been in the US longer than Americans. It has long been a resident in Texas for hundreds if not thousands of years.

    Great shots and story.

Nice set Harry. I suppose this bird is screaming in hopes Oblamea will hear her cries and send her some free stuff like food ,nesting materials, education vouchers and health care. :-) Taking illegal bird photos will be even more challenging and exciting. I have all kinds of camo and can make some pretty good fake IDs *-P Maybe your caracara wants to buy some ?

Thanks Stephen, the cara caras have been regulars at the wetlands through last year. However the Duda's started clearing trees from their farmland surrounding the wetlands last year preparing for a new housing development. Since then the caracaras have been making iregular appearances.

The law is aimed mainly at PETA who have caused a few stirs with film of animal mistreatment on the farms.

Yeah, the video in Food Inc of the workers shoving around the "downer cows" with a forklift was pretty effective at horrifying people.

The caracaras are mainly carrion eaters so I would guess that would place them in the pagan camp.

It sure is and its getting worse. For the next four years at least environmental issues will be dead last priority wise for our "leaders" in Tallahassee. The only good nes is that they are backing off on the proposal to build golf courses in Florida's state parks.

    First off, very nice shots.

The thought of not being able to take photos of a farm as I am driving by seemed insane to me so I went to the source and checked out the senator's site. I think the operative word here is entering. I copied this from his site - "Farms; Prohibits a person from entering onto a farm and making any audio record, photograph, or video record at the farm without the owner's written consent. Provides exceptions. Provides definitions. Provides penalties." Seems acceptable to me.

It may be acceptable to you but we already have a law against trespass which covers it. Making it a first degree felony is a tad over the top. Its merely pandering to a well funded special interest group (the growers).

If one goes to the Fla. state senate's web site and looks at part two of the good senator's legislation it reads:

" (2) A person who photographs, video records, or otherwise
17 produces images or pictorial records, digital or otherwise, at
18 or of a farm or other property where legitimate agriculture
19 operations are being conducted without the written consent of
20 the owner, or an authorized representative of the owner, commits
21 a felony of the first degree, punishable as provided in s.
    22 775.082, s.775.083, or s.775.084, Florida Statutes.

Part 2 says noting about entering the property and would cover images taken from public land.
