Question About Pricing Advertisement

Not your typical pricing question though lol.

Ill be getting underway shooting at a local race track and have a question about advertising my pricing. I plan on having my prices for typical prints (4x6 - 8x10) listed and set. Then, since Ill be shooting a lot of club, or group based events I was thinking of advertising "custom packages available" or something along those lines. Also, Im anticipating someone asking about getting prints larger than 8x10. Should I list a price for a large print and let the customer ask if I offer anything between the large print and the 8x10, or should I list something like "larger prints available upon request"?

Any input on the packages and large prints is appreciated.

Also, as part of my agreement for the access to the track, they would like to use some of my images on their website. Do you typically provide them with a complete set of images and let them pick, or do you provide them with a portion and let them pick?

Thank you!

If you provide too many options, you will only confuse people. If you must show prices, do so for a few standard sizes and then add additional sizes available.

As for the agreement, go through the shots, pick out the best and then let them choose from the top shots. Again, you don't want to give too many options.

Why ( oh why??) do you want to offer 6x4's??
There is no better way I know to destroy the qualities and Wow factor of good photography and make it look amateurish than to print it in 6x4...especially glossy. For motorsports I wouldn't even offer 5x7's.

The difference is though i got to make money and recoup an investment in my time and setup and your not fussed about making any money so in reality I guess it dosen't really matter what you do

I offer A4 only and list the prices of the variations on that only ( mag cover, bordered print etc). I don't put prices on any promo material, they can see that when they come to the trailer and see the Vstations or if they they look on the site.

I would list A4 and poster size if your going to just do ddecent size prints but if you feel the need to start from postage stamps ( which will also kill poster print sales) then i'd just list " larger sizes available " because your not going to get many orders for them anyway.

As far as packages, I don't really offer them but I can't see them being big sellers in prints. I offer images on CD which allows people to buy multiple prints at a reasonable price.

I really think if you start trying to offer so many 6x4's and so many 5x7's etc, your just going to confuse these guys. What I would be doing is offering 3 A4's for the price of 2 or buy a 5 image Cd and get an a4 print of your choice for half price or something to that effect.

That said, I really don't think price will be much of an influence on sales at all. Other people here that specialise in motor sports may have a different opinion but I find it rare that people base a purchase decision on price over having already made the decision they want the image before they know the price and it only having to be affordable to them.

As far as images for the organisers, If there is a car of note like one a guy that has been racing 20 years is driving for the last time before retiring or the qwinner of the feature race or whatever, i'd make sure I included a shot of that and then just pick the 10 best shots and offer those. Organisers down't want to go through a hundred pics, they want 1 to 2 Max and that's it.
