White Ibis (We think?) on Avery Island

This afternoon I was looking around for snowy egrets--trying to spot those bright yellow feet through my 400 mm lens--and was surprised to find these white birds with RED faces, bills, and legs in the middle of an egret rookery. We think :scratch they are white ibis--they were too far away for me to get as much detail as I would have liked. My husband and I haven't seen these birds before on Avery Island, though they are supposed to be common in coastal marshlands. I bet you Florida guys see them often?

Best, Pam

Nice Pam. Hope they are still around later this year. Where's Avery Island? Might
have to check it out. Will be going south thru Lafayette to the Pecan Island area
    and across to Galveston.

Good job Pam. I saw a lot of these in Key West several years ago. The locals called them CoCo as I recall.

    Good captures Pam. thumb.gif

They are so common in my area that I've stopped taking pictures of them. I usually find a bunch of them wandering my neighborhood feeding on our lawns.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

Thanks, Jack! They must be more common east of where we are. Best, Pam

Thanks, Harry! That's exactly what I read online--that they are all over lawns looking for bugs. We don't see them here, though. Yesterday we had to look them up in a field guide. Then, Edmund's cousin who knows the most about birds jumped in his car and went over to look at them. We had quite a todo in identifying a rather common bird! rolleyes1.gifBest, Pam

Beauutiful White Ibis. Love the color. Very nice captures.
When I lived in Florida, the folks down south said they used to call 'em "Swamp Chicken" during the depression. They are very plentyfull all over Florida.

Thank you! Swamp Chicken makes sense--because we sure are surrounded by a swamp. First time we have seen them here, though. Best, Pam
