Here's a few pictures of my friends at the motorcross track. Track was very dry and dusty, had to change lenses in the car.
Thanks,

What were you shooting with?
40D
18-55mm, 28-105mm USM II, 50mm f/1.8, 400mm f/5.6
www.fitephotography.com
Canon 1D MkIIN, Canon 50D, Canon 300 f/2.8L, Canon 70-200 f/2.8L, Canon 24-70 f/2.8L, Canon 85 f/1.8, Canon 1.4 Extender,
Canon 580 & 420 Flash, Pocket Wizards,
Alien Bee 800, Other misc stuff
I was shooting with my 10D and 70-200mm f/2.8L IS. The track is located in Livermore, CA very close to the Bay Area. It's mostly empty area but as with other open areas, the space is taking up quickly by housing development.
A problem I found with this track is the lack of any soft dirt. In these photos you really loose a feeling of speed without any dirt flying in the air.

Take a look at this thread: http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=19594
See how they used a little slower shutter speed, so the tires/spokes show motion blur while keeping the rider sharp.
I believe this would greatly improve the sense of speed in your pictures.
