The concept of the shot is interesting but I'd prefer a subject that is better exposed.

One strobe positioned directly behind diver on a mini tripod and at the edge of the pool covered in clear plastic. One strobe snooted at 1/32nd power positioned high and camera right. One strobe out of frame camera left about even with divers face. The splash was made by a guy doing a "canon ball" about 1 sec prior to the dive. Timing was tricky. Many shots had the diver looking down or the volume of the spray did not come out right. It was loads of fun and we all had many laughs. All of my helpers were random hotel guests and they all could hardly wait for their turn. You are right about the exposure on the divers face. I needed an experienced helper to position the camera left strobe based on the athletic ability of each diver.
