A carnivore is a carnivore is a carnivore. I don't care if s/he IS at the National zoo. These are some seriously intent looking felines/canids. Bokeh courtesy of Nikkor 400mm f2.8.

They are all wonderful but the lion exudes such a sense of age, wisdom, and majesty that I can't stop looking at him. clap.gifclap (Maybe it's because I was born in August) headscratch.gif

Yeah, he was quite regal. Now you've got me interested. I'll bet I can find out how old he is from the zoo.
    Oh, and thank you!

Then you'll probably like this shot, which I feel really captured the magnificent elder statesman.

Nice snaps. I like the cheetah shot the best. That's a lot of equipment for a zoo shoot, you must have gotten some looks. I noticed you used two different camera bodies, one FF and one crop. Was that so you could use two different focal lengths?

The cheetah is my favorite too. Gosh they're beautiful animals.

Yeah, I felt a bit like a middle aged guy in a Corvette. You know . . . like he's compensating for some inadequacy in some other "part" of his life. Actually though, there were a couple folks there with bazooka lenses (Canons covered with camo-lenscoats) mounted on huge tripods with Wemberly gimbals. I felt "inadequate" with my piss-ant monopod. I looked around, but didn't see the burros they musta used to get that stuff there.

You hit the nail on the head. I use my D300 like a teleconverter.

Those are a set of marvelous pictures John. thumb.gif

Glad that you were just toting the 400 2.8 and not bazookas like those Canon shooters. :D

Thank you Kristine! I have a suggestion for you. Get rid of the "when I grow up" phrase on your "about me" page. Your photography has a maturity that will allow it to speak for itself.thumb.gif
