I am guessing this shot is with the person that controls the house strobes? He under exposed and then controlled the strobes to get the isolation?

I like it.

Not all the house strobes though or the rest of the arena would be lit up. This looks like possibly only one strobe to me.

But you need to kill the ambient.. Which means he needs VERY HIGH shutter speeds. Flash alone isn't going to make that shot work...

    Edit-

I was shooting @ Conseco. Exposure was 1/500@F4 - ISO 1600. Assuming that's the case, it would be 1/1000@2.8 ISO 1600

    (All at 2.8)
    1/500 @ 800
    1/250 @ 400

So if he shot 1/250 @ ISO 100 he'd be 3 stops under ambient. If he could go down to ISO 50, 4 stops. Add the flash and there you go. No HSS necessary. But that looks like a lot more than 4 under...
