High winds, hair flying everywhere and soft-boxes...a bit easier than brollies but still a pain. Anyways...I just got my Wescott Apollo 28" soft-box and I was excited to try it out after playing with it at a recent Smug Meet. Mom held the light stand while I shot :D

Used a SB800 fired via radio trigger at 1/2 power inside the Apollo

Wow. #1 is wonderful. Your combo of light/lens & body is perfect. Why ISO 160 though? Just curious.

    Thanks guys...
John I set the D700 to L0.3 and that's what the EXIF reads...I thought it would be ISO100...perhaps a bit of an oddity?
I don't think there is a finer lens for portrait work than the 85 1.4
After a few years I finally sent the body back to Nikon for a sensor cleaning and to have a the rubber glued back onto the grip.
She's as good as new now :-)

I shoot d700 portraits all the time at 800 or even 1600, no problem.
    Exposures look good.
When using one source off camera lighting try to make the nose shadow look like it comes from the sun, which means the nose shadow goes down and to the side.
