New website

Hello friends,
I usually post in this part of the forum.
I just wanted to let you know that I have moved from SmugMug Pro away to Zenfolio.
Because of that my website address has changed to http://www.photom.me

    Back to smugmug. Ze folios prints are just crap. Sorry for my language. But it is really bad!!!

    Well that was fast. You care to expand on how you were able to discern the "crapiness?" I have moved from Smug to Zen - but not for prints..for overall ease of use. However, I am coming up to a point where I will have to use the print features. So appreciate your real world take.

    So I live in UK and after being with SmugMug for a year I though that it would be better to try Zenfolio because it has UK based lab - Photobox. I have used Photobox before and I was not happy with the result - colors different then then on my screen (calibrated monitor). But I thought - I will give a try because maybe Zenfolio has some sort of arrangements with Photobox. I loved the layouts and the simplicity - I am not a CSS and Java master and SmugMug require those things if you want to change something what is not as standard. For me the galleries looked great - well except the contrast added to the thumbnails - I do not know why they do it. I have upload most of my photos and I was very happy with it. The iPhone app is great - you can control nearly the whole site from it. Great! Direct uploading to facebook and Flickr from the admin website is handy - very handy. Great Great. Much better then SmugMug. Then I have decided (still during my trial) to order a print - this photo:

    Nothing special - very dark, contrasty portrait. The size I have ordered 20x30.
    I came in a tube wrapped in a Photobox paper. I thought - very professional! And then I have unwrapped the photo - OMG! I was so mad! Disappointed! Why? Well under the subjects chin there was big, deep, white scratch! But I thought - this can happen. And then the colors - the photo was warm, really warm colors - the shirt was not anymore blue - it was brown-ish. Really bad. The contrast of the photo was to strong. I know the photo is already contrasty - but on the print it was much much worse. But then I thought - be optimistic. But then I look at the paper - they print on FujiColor Crystal Archive paper - it is very very very thin paper. You can see through that paper. It felt so cheap! So I have contacted Zenfolio for refund or reprint. They sent new print - I will check it Tomorrow when it comes.
    To compare this with smugmug - I have ordered a test print from smugmug. This photo:

    It came to ma after a week from USA. I do not remember what size I have ordered - but it was huge. I have paid a bit for the shipment - and thats the down side of smugmug. But when I have taken out the photo from the tube - my jaw just dropped on the floor! The photo was like alive!! The color great, sharpnes amazing. And the paper - just beautiful. I had to frame it that photo because I felt in love with the quality. That was my firs print with smugmug and I think it was the best print I have ever seen. Just Beautiful.

    I hate the fact that I have to spend my time to customize my website - well I would call it attempting of customization :) I would rather spend that time to take photos and met new clients etc etc.

    Smugmug will have to start making websites for photographers not web designers :)

    But on the end of the day - when I will start making money with my photography I want that the customers will have the greatest quality of prints. And SmugMug is the only one who can deliver it!

    Thats why I have apologized the SmugMug guys :) And I am back with them :) My renewal is I think on the end of April and I will be subscribing again.

    Ps. Zenfolio said that soon they will have a pro Lab in UK, but so did SmugMug said :) But for now SmugMug is for me.... but first I have to finish a degree in CSS and Java :)

    I almost did the same but I changed my mind at the last minute.
