Hot Shoe adapter

I have a Sigma EF-530 DG Super flash and need to figure out how to fire it off camera with my radio triggers. I purchased a hot shoe adapter with a pc port and tried it that way but for some reason haven't been able to make it work. The adapter is a $9 version so I may have gotten what I paid for. Anyone know what I need to buy or need to do to make what I have work?

There could be a couple of things at work here:

Make sure that the flash is set to manual mode. It probably won't fire properly off of a simple trigger pulse otherwise.

Some flashes and triggers are sensitive to polarity. If the polarity is reversed, the flash won't fire.

+1 on using manual mode. You probably have it in TTL mode, right?

My flash does have a setting for either wireless master or slave. With some experimentation I found out it has to be set to slave with the ETTL turned off for it to work with my triggers. My instruction manual is not too clear with these functions. Thank you both so much for your help. If your ever in Columbus, MS I will buy you lunch.:D
