I believe the only way is to upgrade it to a 500 series speedlite.

Flash exposure compensation, and/or Neutral Density gel.

And to add to Scott's response, FEC is on the camera and not the flash in the case of the 420EX. For the 580EX (and I believe the 550EX), FEC is also on the flash.

    Right, sorry.

On the 300D, you can enable it through custom functions, and it is easiest to access from the JUMP button, I believe.

    My solution? I got a Sigma Super 500DG and a 10D.

Ok, so I have the Digital Rebel. I think I read that the Digital Rebel supports FEC? So it's just a matter of finding that fuction on the camera.

    Thanks for your help!

Just so we're all clear: turns out the DRebel does not support FEC. Need a neutral density filter, or a white t-shirt rubber banded over the flash (which was my temporary solution).

Do you have the Digital Rebel, ot the Digital Rebel XT? The XT does do FEC, it's in the options only available in the Creative Zones.
