Hello
I had an enquiry from an artist to by 27 of my photos , he would like to paint them.
could I allow him to do go ahead ? Do I have any rights on this ?
could I sell him the prints for the price like the rest of sales or should be charge more because he wants to paint them ?
here is his mail
Thank you for the information. I understand and fully respect that the digital files are not available for sale and are protected by copy right. I am aware of the theft problems that photographers face these days. To guarantee you that I will only use your images as a reference for my painting/s, you can send me a signed consent form and I will sign and mail it back to you. As I explained earlier, I will be using the prints as a reference for painting so, instead of getting 12 x 8 prints, if possible I would like to get 4x6 or 5x7 sizes so I can easily project the images to my canvas.
thank you very much

Now as far as the use you are describing, there are typically two types.
1) Artist reference, where they use your photo for technical or other visual details. The resulting painting is not recognizable as the photograph on the whole, though portions may (the reference items)
2) Art rendering, where the photo is used to create a painting (for example) that is recognizable as the photograph when it is completed.
Now what you would typically want to know is the intended need (1 or 2 above), how many prints/paintings will be made, and where the paintings will be used. Will they be displayed in public locations like stores, businesses, etc. Will it be used in publication? Private ownership? Depending on the uses, the prices would vary based on the value of the image in those uses. Some sources put the price at 75% of the normal price for the intended uses.
