Gallery Settings Changing

Today, I created a new gallery, set it to display as thumbnails, and added photos. After this, several other galleries, in different categories, and set to thumbnails, changed to "viewer controlled". In the past, creating a new gallery resulted in all of my other galleries changing from thumbnails to viewer controlled. I have to go into each gallery setting and change them back.

How am I screwing up?
