Nice work, David! You have a similar composition style as I do vis-a-vis soccer. I just love the game. Here is a link to a high school game I shot last week: http://johnhefti.zenfolio.com/p322752922
Colors seem a bit washed out. I little "pep" in post would help dramatically. Also, why ISO 400? You're at 1/2500th @ f/4.8. (4.8? Weird number. You must be at 1/2 stops rather than the typical 1/3 stops.)

Thanks John, I checked out your site as well. You have some great photos there. Looks like you are a much more rounded photographer than I am.
Oh, and thanks for signing my guest book.

You caught me. Rookie mistake, I picked up the camera from the last shoot and never checked the ISO. The f/4.8 is from using the 1.7 converter on a 2.8 lens. I just switched from pc to mac last week and haven't set up my editing yet so these are just cropped with no post.

It looks like you were shooting in direct sun, near mid-day, so the colors are bound to be a little hard to get right. The people and the uniforms seem fine w.r.t. color and saturation, but the background is a little washed out. All in all, probably the right compromise.
Positioning...
I can't wait for our Chicago season to warm up, our game the other day had a 15degree real-feel with the wind.
My one suggestion for you would be to get lower, as it appears that you shot down a bit at the action. It gives a better perspective IMHO to be sitting on the ground or at least in a chair. Ok, I lied, my second suggestion is to be more willing to move you position on the side line, especially get to the goal line between goal and corner, you can be five yards back so no complaints from ref.. You'll get much better action shots of tboth the attack, shots on goal, and defense. If they don't let you there, then sideline right by corner.
