I should have posted this one for the action challenge a while back, but I didn't think of it.

Hey, Juano, I don't do this kind of shooting and admire those who do. That said, because I have a son who's been doing it professionally for almost 20 years - go figure, right? - I'd suggest that what would have made this even stronger would have been to have framed in such a way that we had an extended perpendicular line from the rail in the lower right hand corner through the extended arm in the upper right.

Thanks for the advice BD. It´s not easy for me to capture movement like this, lots to learn and practice. This is my son btw...

Nice - agree with BD, but in a way, those lines are implied by the tiny bit of railing and the arm.

This kind of thing is what I dream of finding when I'm out prowling about. I guess you don't have to look too far :D

Yes, it's too bad there isn't more of the railing. What might help here is to crop the right edge so that the end of the diagonal railing is at the lower right corner of the frame. That would emphasize the diagonal line with the arm at the upper left.

I will try the crop, but the shape of the photo will be odd, don't you think?

In the mean time here is an older photo on taken at the same place (not my son this time). The lines work better I think.

I think if you crop this just a little lower, say, just beneath the collar - half way between bottom of sleeve and collar- it will be even stronger. As it is now, it just looks like the head is cut off. A little fine-tuning and it will look like premeditated art :D

It wouldn't be a standard crop--a little narrower than a 4x3--but I don't think it would look odd. I generally stick to standard sizes because if I ever want to print and frame, it's easier, but you can always put a custom mat in a standard frame if need be. For the Web, it doesn't matter at all, I think.

I like this very last photo you posted. Reminds me of a skate shoe ad or something along those lines.

For some reason - I think it's the overall gesture of the legs - if legs can gesture - I like #2, and I think the crop, as subtle as it was, makes a difference.

I agree with you on the crop good suggestion. the legs are gesturing that he wasn't going to make the jump and was hoping to land somehow! :D

I think both are significantly improved by the crops. The line in the first is a stonger without the extra space to the right of the rail on the bottom. The second is better, too, although, I'm uncertain how much of what I like better on #2 is related to the crop and how much is the b&w conversion.

I liked them both in the first versions, only got better with the tweaks! clap.gif

Thanks! I agree that the BW conversion and the subtle crop makes #2 more appealing. BW rules.

I like the tweaked versions and have learned a lot from reading this thread so thanks everyone!
