Now I believe that this is a once in a life time experience. Coming home I see this hawk sitting on this post, I run inside the house and get the only lens that is on the camera an 85mm not what you would call a bird lens. I was more worried about the opportunity. I thought if I moved in slowly I could get some great shots. I moved in within 4-5' yea 4-5 feet he watched me I got 6 pictures and when I truned for a second he was gone. (did you see the spyder on his right wing?) I went back to the house grabbed my 300mm and went looking when I found him in the field. I am sad that he flew away and not toward me. He was between 25 and 35 yards at that point. I wish I had a 500mm or longer today.
Enjoy....

#3 He was watching every move I made at this point....seemed to be protecting something. I was a little worried thinking maybe he was sick. Especially allowing me to get so close minutes before.

#7 Based on his wing span my guess is that snake was between 4.5 and 5.5 feet long.

What an experience! WOW. I think that you are right about it only happening once in a lifetime. For most people, not even once. Congrats on capturing it all!

    Beautiful set of images.

Congratulations! Great opportunity (that you were quick enough to recognize) and FANTASTIC captures. You nailed these, they all are beautiful. Thank you very much for sharing them. So, have you decided which one(s) will get blown up and put in a frame? clap.gif

I had to look carefully, but I DO see the spider on his wing! What a terrific series! I bet everyone who sees this series feels that familiar angst of knowing you have a special wildlife subject that will likely go away quickly-- and your camera is not ready! Great job! clap.gifclapclap.gifclap
