You're on the right track, I think. But you need to pay more attention to the background. Except for #4, the backgrounds compete too much with the subject. I realize that insects and birds don't always appear where you want them to lol3.gif. Shooting with a wider aperture might improve the separation. thumb.gif

Thanks Richard. If there is one thing I have noticed, the subjects have no respect for art and just don't cooperate.:bash

I was hoping for some advice on getting better(more natural) color with a fast shutter speed.

Any tips on getting closer...or negating spousal complaints on the purchase of a longer lens.rolleyes1.gif

Expound at length on how much money you saved. :D

For the bees, I have found I can get within a couple of inches when they are foraging. Find a spot where the BG is uncluttered and a bit darker than the flower and where the bee will be in sunlight. Then set your focus and shutter speed and be very, very patient. mwink.gif

You might also post on the macro forum for tips on the insects.

I have not been very successful with birds in flight. I really, really need a longer lens. wings.gif

    The captures are pretty good.

How hard is to get flying insects crystal clear! For me #5 and #7 are the most interesting ones...

    Keep trying!! Andrea.

Oh no, I don't save money. I only waste it. Just ask my wife....and thanks.

I have the opposite issue - a husband. But, I use the "look how much money I saved" technique and it helps along with raving about how much fun I have and how (due to an injury) I had to give up my riskier and even more expensive passion - horseback riding and competing. That usually stops any complaints in their tracks.rolleyes1.gif

For help with the bug shots, definitely check out the Macro thread - those folks really know what they're doing.
