Cool shot, were you using a long exposure or a lighting trigger?
I was being a cheapskate and ordered a $5 dollar remote from Amazon. I can't complain with it's performance.

Proline Tripod - Looks like a carbon fiber but it's aluminum.
I took advantage of the ambient light from a gas station behind me.
All in all the kit lens didn't do to bad, or the tripod. I bought the tripod at Amazon for roughly $40 US. It looks like a carbon fiber but it's aluminum. Anyways it works in a pinch.
