I'm making a short video for school and i found this program to capture video with my 40d. (eos live capture) So that i can have shallow dof, for artistic shots.

The video looks good, but i read from different places that i could fry my sensor if i use it for too long, like more than 5 minutes.

Is this true? Wouldn't it be the same as using live view for a long time? Can anyone give some thoughts?

Thanks

oh sorry i should have given a link,

its called EOS Camera Movie recorder

    http://sourceforge.net/projects/eos-movrec/

it shoots very close to 720p, but not in the right aspect ratio, it needs to be cropped

I think this also works on the older Canon bodies like the XSi/450D - it is using the live view function

Live View does heat up the imager and stresses the image processing unit. Unlike the later video capable dSLRs, cameras like the Canon 40D are not really designed for protracted Live View, primarily lacking a sufficient heat sink for that application. While "some" use probably won't cause immediate damage, constant use of Live View probably would cause camera damage.

Be especially careful in warmer and hot climates where the heat buildup can become severe.

ok thats what i thought.... but the only question is the "some".

I plan to shoot for about an hour a few times a week, for the next little while.
    I guess we'll see.
