Help With TC's

When I bought my Nikon D70 earlier this year, it came with 2 kit lenses... the Nikkor 28-80 and the 70-300. I was looking to get more reach from the 70-300 and I bought a cheapie 2X TC made by Phoenix. Anyway, I've yet to get a decent capture while using the TC. I've tried everything... new tripod, remote, etc. My question: Will I see an improvement if I move up to a 2X Sigma or Nikon TC? Any and all advice will be most welcome. Thanks!

This reminds me of the following: Garbage in is garbage out.

While the 70-300 is OK by itself, it would be challenged with a GOOD 1.4x TC let alone a 2.0x TC. And when I say good, I mean a Nikon or such. Given you have your 70-300 on a cheap 2.0x TC, no matter what you do, it will never be good or even aceptable.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Don't feel bad, I have tested my 80-200/2.8D AF/S Nikkor with a 2.0x TC, and I found the result acceptable but not great.

    FWIW, YMMV,

Hey, XO... thanks, you really know how to hurt a guy. I guess I really knew the answer, just don't like to hear it. Time to go back to the drawing board...

    Meanwhile... Go Broncos!

    Thanks again,
