Sunrise Over Marblehead

I have vowed to get myself up now and try to shoot early morning at least every other week as my schedule permits. Unfortunately I am becoming convinced that Daylight Savings Times is a conspiracy to rid the world of landscape photographers. Sunrise at 6:09a on the coast, 50 minute ride from the house, need to be there about 50 minutes before sunrise to setup and catch the twilight = up at 400a.

But the light was nice.

Here are a couple I took from the beach at Castle Rock in Marblehead, MA. The sun was rising straight ahead, low tide was a 300a so it was about halfway to high tide, and the waves were beginning to hit fairly well. Unfortunately that meant the occasional rogue wave would submerge my feet when I wasn't paying complete attention.

#1 Early Morning Silky Water

10 sec exposure, f/10. This was taken at 5:20a so pretty much completely dark.

#2 View Through the Rocks

1.3s exposure, f/8

I have been favoring these shadowy shots lately. I like the way you can get some nice details in some of the areas and then barely any in the darks, but hopefully not quite blocked up.

More being processed and the balance can be found here.

Thanks for looking.

How dare you come to my town and not give me a heads-up? :cry
Nice shots of Castle Rock! It's all about timing down there and looks like you caught a great combo of light and tide level thumb.gif

Nice set, Tom. I really like the water in #1 and the framing in #2. I also like the ones in your gallery where the waves are splashing. Looks like it was worth the early morning wakeup!

    Ditto to the other compliments!

I agree. Daylight Savings Time is a conspiracy! I don't mind the early rising (I'm often up at 4 or shortly after) but up here it is MUCH TOO COLD at that hour to venture forth, regardless of the photo opportunities. :cry

Maybe later in the season when the mornings are a titch warmer?ne_nau.gif

Really nice set Tom, I really like the first image with its orange/yellow sunrise against the blue of the water, nice color compliments.

These shots are fantastic. I absolutely love the effect that the 10 sec exposure produced .. It looks like a fog rolling over the water (or is it a fog over the water?)
Anyways, well done. These look great.

Nice shots. I love daylight savings however. One of my favorite days of the year is the one in March when it gets dark an hour later than it did the day before. Instant spring. And I do believe that without daylight savings it would be getting light an hour earlier in the morning, not later. So you can give thanks that you didn't have to set your alarm for 3.
