Here are a few shots I thought I'd post for C&C. Not my usual genre but it does make me look at things in a different way. :D Comments are welcomed. Thanks, Lauren

1. Wash DC bus stop - I liked the sign

2. Wash DC - shot from upper floor hotel window with Nikon 70-300; no tripod, thus the poor focus

3. Same as #2 - I watched these kids for several minutes - they were clearly having a grand time

4. Travis Park in San Antonio - I chuckled at the cop giving this guy a cigarette

5. I was in downtown San Antonio across from the Alamo when this fellow passed by carrying a large map. Why? :dunno

Poor focus you say? I say #2 is excellent. The head is perfectly sharp while everything else conveys motion. clap.gif

What Richard said. #2 is the winner.

    ... I'm still peeling potatoes.

I like #2 and #3. Right off, I want to say #2 is my favorite, but that could just be because I saw it first. What I like about it is the angle of the view and the motion blur. That's what makes it "pop" for me. Good captures!

Yup, #2. Especially since you managed to catch the shadow, too.

Wow for #2! :D I have always liked the boy and the shadow, but I kept noticing the pavement around him that looks quite blurry to me. I'm glad to know that all of you were drawn to it b/c I definitely like the subject and comp! Probably should have posted just that shot so it didn't get lost in the shuffle. rolleyes1.gif

Does anyone have any thoughts on #5? Is there too much in it? Not good b/c the man's feet are cut off? Boring? I'd appreciate your thoughts. I like the shot but maybe that's because I was there and I'm remembering everything from that day. It may be just a boring image to others. I can take it, but would like any ideas. As I look back at my original post, I find I don't care much about the other 3 shots.

    Cheers,
    Lauren

    Hi Lauren,
I agree with the others, I was also immediately drawn to #2:).

I also really like #1 with the people waiting at the bus stop with the "lotto" advertisement.

Agree with the others on #2. Also like #3, though wanting the passage in its entirety.

#5 doesn't really jump at me. It says "guy walking while carrying an object." From a pure technical perspective, the picture is good. It's in focus, there's no doubt as to what the subject is and you did a really good job of capturing the background. This just doesn't reach out to me, it sparks no real curiosity. I do understand your question of why he's carrying around the map. I just don't find myself asking that. Now if there were others in the shot staring at him, I think it would have drawn me in.

Nyarthlopic - Thanks so much for your comments--very helpful! I find it very difficult to compose on the fly, and to look at the environment around the subject when I have to do it quickly. I was just glad to have gotten a good shot of this guy b/c I had to act fast and set my camera correctly. I definitely see what you mean about there being no interesting story to draw in the viewer. Thanks again, and for your earlier comments on #2.

Rainbow - I may have a shot of that entire text. I'll go back through those files and will post it if I do.

You were in my neck of the woods and didn't say hi?!

Love the motion in #2. There's something very freeing and just plain joyful about it. thumb.gif

Oh, Kerry, I am sorry--especially since you did come to TX for our Austin shoot. Laughing.gif i was in DC last Aug with a friend; we spent a few days in DC and then a few more in the Smokies. Thanks for your comments about #2.
