Browney, our Chocolate Labrador

My first time using a 5 in 1 and i'm excited for it's future.

This was taken last night in my backyard. Camera right was main source of lighting, literally a 100w patio light. Camera left was the 5 in 1 gold reflector disk. On camera I had my shoe mounted Canon 480EX for direct light on Browney.

I'm completely new to this portrait lighting thing and would be very interested in a workshop or group of classes.

Canon 7D shot in JPEG (thought I was in RAW, my mistake)
Canon 480EX
Canon 50mm f/1.4 hand held
ISO 800

C&C most welcome.

Now those are some awesome portraits! Gorgeous color, sharp, great composition, lots of personality. The only thing I would suggest is taking the tag off the collar. Great job!

This is where you're starting out? Wowzers. Stunning pet portraits with well-used DOF and beautiful light. thumb.gif I might (and only might) crop or burn down the bg and decking #1 (or maybe a dark vignette) to minimize the object top left and the wood grain, but it's a pretty minor nit (and this monitor is not very good and very bright and constrasty - it may not even be noticeable on a calibrated one)

Thank you, all. I'm really enjoying this site. The suggestions, tips, techniques and inspiration on DGRIN is limitless. I could spend all day, everyday here. Unfortunately, I'm the only photo enthusiast in my peer group and family, so I need to reach out to online forums, etc to share and collaborate.

divamum, i'm on the same page as you. The OG picture is much brighter BG and decking, i've burned it down in the final using CS5, a bit more would do it some good, thanks.

    Happy clicks,

    Doug

I think you've done very well lighting your pup. I love the second one for the shadows and texture it conveys.

Browney is a gorgeous example of the breed.

I love, love, love these pictures of Browney. I think they look like they were taken in a studio. I love the crispness of his/her face and how the background is blurred. I also like how the subtle lighting highlights his/her golden eyes!

These pictures are great! I absolutely love labs. Unfortunately mine passed away last year. I wish I would have taken more photos of her!

My favorite would be the second picture
