I have a smugmug site that is password protect to keep certain people out.

However i do have some gallaries that I would like to share to the public - either by giving out links or posting in forums.

Is there a way to do this?

If you have password-protected site, it seems to me that allowing access to any galleries or photos on your site without the viewer supplying a password would be a violation of the security that you have set up on the site.

Are you trying to keep these individuals out of your entire site, or out of a set of galleries? If it's a set of galleries, remove the password protection from the site and add it to the individual galleries. If you want to keep them out of the entire site, then you need your current site-wide password, and all viewers would need to supply a password.

I have a site password for people that come directly to my site. I don't need strangers looking at my family pictures.

But I do have some gallaries of random stuff that I would like to share. Maybe the link to those gallaries don't have to be within my site.

I just hate to have to have two different smugmug accounts.

    Share groups?

If you have a site password then allowing access to anything within your site without supplying a password would be a violation of security. I'm not aware of any way of sharing photos publicly that live on a password-protected site.

The only other option that I can think of within a single smug site is to remove the site password and place the same password on every gallery. Once an individual has accessed one gallery he or she will be able to access other galleries without logging in again. Then you would leave a gallery or two unprotected for sharing purposes.

I was going through this same thought process when I came upon this post. If all galleries had one password, what would one's homepage look like to the outside world? Would anything be shown? Currently I have a password protected site and a number of the homepage elements on there once logged in. But as to the OP point I too would like a few links that I could make public without providing the sitewide password. I'm surprised share groups don't work in this case.

If all galleries have the same password, the homepage, category and sub-category pages will all show to the general public, but when they try to open a gallery, they will be prompted for a password and will not be able to view the gallery until entering the proper password. If all galleries have the same password, that same viewer will be able to open any other gallery without re-entering the password (for some period of time until a browser cookie expires).

A password protected gallery by default just shows a lock icon for it's thumbnail, but you can select a thumbnail for the gallery to show that instead by selecting the image in the gallery and then selecting Tools/This Photo/More/Feature.
