Just a couple of shots from today, testing out a combination
of 100mm Macro with 1.4x TC and a reversed 18-55 in front of
macro lens. Magnification in these shots is somewhere near 5x
and 9x respectively.

I really wonder how much better the 65mm MPE is? I had to reduce the size of
these shots quite a bit to get some acceptable sharpness.

Thanks for looking!

Good ones - one thing with shooting at higher magnifications is the need to open up the aperture to get sharp shots as you get very high apparent apertures from the magnification which affects diffraction softening. Must admit I'm not sure the MPE-65 is that much sharper than the the reversed 50mm and ext tube combos I used to use with my 105mm macro lens, but it's a lot more conveniant in practice.

I see. I had the problem that closing down the aperature results
in heavy vignetting as if shot with a 180° circular fisheye. Thats
why I had to use f/2.8 on these. The flexibility of the MPE would
be nice to have but I consider myself not worthy .. maybe I should
stop looking at your pics? :D
