Bulk thumb crop position

I really like the way the square thumbs look, but using them means that I have to manually crop almost all of the images I upload. A majority of my photos are verticals of people so my square crops are all of torsos.
I want to be able to specify the default location of the crop (ie. top-center) as opposed to always the middle. I've read about a hack that was disabled by some back-end upgrades. Is there any new tools to help with this.

Or at least do the crop thumbnail processing in the background and move on
to the next thumb.

I can only assume by the lack of response to anything regarding the BZT tool means SM either does not care or has something big to release. But either way not responding sure does not make me warm and fuzzy.

It was a hack written by a SmugMug customer, years ago. Search Dgrin for Bulk Zoom Thumbnail and you will find it.

set the crop on each and hit save. In about two minutes the whole set of
thumbs would be changed. Although it takes some time scrolling down each photo
and setting the crop you could walk away or browse elsewhere in different
window/tab while it processed. With the current cropping feature you have to
sit there and keep clicking for every thumb. We really need a way to multiple
crops. The silence is terrible

I don't think BZT will come out of the ashes. But we'd love it if you would all post on http://feedback.smugmug.com thanks!

every portrait photog would love to use it because of the stupid way people
heads are cut off with square thumbs. Can you tell I'm really pissed? But
life goes on.

One thing I've learned being around SM for the last 5 years... if no one replies it's because you ticked em off and they are giving you the cold shoulder (you know it happens so don't say it doesn't) or something is on the horizon. When something new is brewing SM will not speak of it to save a life...
As for the hack... it's been an integral part of SM life around here for as long as I can remember. Breaking hacks is sonething Sm tried not to do, but this one was a biggie...
Sure Andy I'll post at feedback.smugmug.com
