Shots For Business Use CC

This woman, 47 years old, wanted some shots to use for business purposes. (business cards, letterhead, brochures and website) She is in the personal services industry so I tried to capture images that could be "business professional" without a stodgy "corporate" type feel.

I hope to be able to charge for this type of service in the future, so nit picking C and C is requested. Keep in mind the "time is money" adage, so to keep the service affordable, it wouldn't make sense to spend 10 mins post processing each image taken.

These were taken with a D100, 200ISO, 5.6/125 Manual with strobes in front of a twist-o-flex background.

I like these alot. I really like the addition of the bkg light in 3 & 5. It just helps to separate the subject from the background. They feel a little warm but her race might be a contributing factor to that. I would tend to use a kicker and hair light on these types of shots to add some zap to the subject. All in all a very nice job for her. Congrats. Keep taking shots like these and you will be doing many more of these.

Very nice, though I don't find the skin tones pleasing, unless, as Hackbone says, this is her natural color.

    Thank-you Charles and Sara!

The woman is Lebanese and she does have a olive/tan skin tone. The representation, at least on my monitor, is very close to her natural color. I did try to lighten the tone a bit on one image and it looked sterile, certainly unlike her natural tone. I will play with that some more just to see what I can accomplish in that regard.

Charles, I did use a hair light, located slightly behind and to the side of the subject, in all the shots posted except number three. The images that appear to be on a black background are the result of me throwing a black bed sheet over the background. In the black background shots I added a fill because I was loosing detail in her hair on the cold side of her face.

Here is a shot that I tried what I think is a "kicker" but didn't like the way the side of her nose was over exposed. Guess I need to play with the metering some more.

Thanks again for all the time you have afforded me in my quest to learn.

Yes Bryce, the kicker was bad but in the heat of battle it is so easy to overlook. Been there and done that many times and probably will still do so. Nonethless you've got some great shots here.

I prefer all of the lighter bg shots and especially #5. There is an ease about her in that shot that as a consumer makes her appear very approachable.

    Really nice set.

I prefer the separate one you posted with the over exposed nose. I don't think it matters too much about blowing the highlights a little there, as the overall image is more pleasant IMHO.

I like them all and to be a bit nit picky, I'm not sure if I like the catch lights in #1 and #2.

Thank you very much. And... I agree with you wholeheartedly on number 5! Getting the subject (female) to say "Men in underwear" works every time for me!

Interesting. To me, that one is a clunker. But, I certainly will play with that look some more.

    Thanks for the input!

I agree. I hate the two catch light look. I had to weigh that against loosing all detail in her black hair on the cold side of her face. So, I added that fill with just enough power to get some detail in that black hair. Suppose I could edit it out, but that would be cheating wouldn't it?

    Thanks for weighing in!
