Calif Sea Stacks

I finally found some clouds last Thursday for sunset near Ft. Bragg, CA. It seems like I've been on a clear sky loop that I couldn't get out of. It was a very windy day, the seas were very choppy, but this area behind of the sea stacks faired pretty well. I was at the coast all day so I decided to do some recon on other coastal areas. I even went to Russian Gulch Waterfall which is just ok, but it killed 4 hours and I got a good hike out of it.

You are right WD, I've never been there before but I knew it was in the Redwoods, so I was hoping that even an afternoon shot would be mostly in the shade. As it turned out I was wrong, it was just the opposite. Such is life.....

Doug these are great! I have spent a limited amount of time in the general area but wanted to do more. It looks like there is a ton to be seen if you just stop and take your time. Nice work!

Your so right Schmoo, the No Calif coast have sea stacks around each corner the trick is gaining access to them. Thanks for the comments

Thanks John, I wasn't sure of the reaction folks would have to the last image as it had so many trees that intersected the image.

Three great shots Doug. I really think the first is the strongest image, but I love the motion in the water on the second.

Love love love the water in the second, that is sweet! I only wish the sea-stack was a little sharper. The first one has a great composition too with the star burst, might have been a good op for an ND filter to soften the water a bit (though at the expense of the sun star). The first two do have a little vignetting too, nothing major though.

All good points Ron thanks much for commenting. Both images I used two 3 stop ND filters including a polarizer but I was shooting at f8 with the intent to photo stack two frames. Trouble was on my image #2 which was taken 20 minutes after sunset I forgot to refocus and take the second shot.ne_nau.gif Oh Well. I do like the water in the 2nd image the best too, I was standing in about 2.5' of water so it was more dramatic with more wave action. Its a learning process my friend......

Thanks Nasser, I was using 1second shutter speed. I had a vari n duo screw on nd filter and polarizer, with I'm guessing about 5 stops total.

Love the color and composition in the first image. The fall has a lot of potential with the right lighting. A revisit during soft lighting conditions could yield something special there.
