Filenames as captions don't show up in embedded slide show

I have a gallery set up as an embedded slide show - works fine. None of the photos have captions - I want to use the filenames as captions, and this is enabled in the gallery setting "look and feel." But they don't show up on the slide show. Anybody have a fix?

thanks, Tom

    Tom,

Slideshows don't support displaying of filenames as far as I know. You can only add your filename as the caption manually to have it show.
We also import the filename from the IPTC caption field upon uploading so you could add the filename as the caption in bulk before uploading photos to SmugMug.

That's pretty lame - there needs to be some way to semi-automatically put the filename in the caption.

I have 500+ un-captioned photos that are snapshots of partially unidentifed people. I will send out a notice to a large group that I would like them to identify themselves and tell me which photo they are in, so I can add it as a caption.

The problem is there is no way for them to identify the photo.

Why should I have to manually put a filename in the caption? That is ridiculous - computers are for automation!

You can have filenames show in views other than slideshow, so perhaps you should pick a different view that will show filenames.

The entire goal is to have an embedded slide show, and where there are no captions, display file names.

unfortunately, at this time there isn't a direct tool available to do what you're looking for. i like the idea of being able to "put filenames in caption" for multiple photos, maybe it's something that can be part of a future tool.

one possible solution would be to point your users at the Lightbox of the gallery - the filename is on the Info tab once you click "Show Details".

i know this isn't the exact solution that you're looking for, but it may help in the meantime.
