for those looking for a Good economical alternative to the camera straps available:
i purchased a : Condor Tactical Sling (labeled TAC CON SB2-BLK Dual Bungee One Point Sling-Black) from our local CopStop for $28.99 plus tax. I use my monopod attachment D-ring screwed into the bottom of my 5D MkII and just clip the sling to the D-ring. Works great, secure adjustable strap, good price.
you can see the sling if your interested by going to www.condoroutdoor.com
then look at "Tactical Slings"--it is listed on the site as "US1001 COBRA one point bungee sling"
the site is wholesale, but should be able to direct you to dealers if you are interested.

    took your idea
i went and picked up a tactical rifle sling today. i've always thought about it but never really considered it. i think i'm going to really like it tho. I was never into the tripod mount method, i clipped mine to the side ring.

looks like the same strap i have except mine is black, the one on the site actually looks wider than the one i picked up locally.
thought about it and moved my hookup to the side ring also, but put it on the side opposite the shutter button & main dials.
i really like this strap & the price is right for sure.
thanks for suggesting another mount point, this is even handier now.

Looks like a very cool idea for a neck strap.

would you be so kind and put a link to where you got the black clip.....that looks like what I have been hunting for for a very long time.....I am currently using very small carabiners but would rather have the black ones you are using......

    Thanks.

Art, the black clip comes with the Tactical Strap, but i believe you can buy just the end of the strap separately, they have a variety of clips to chose from at the CopStop i bought mine from here in Texas, website may list a dealer in your area...

^what he said, the clip comes with the sling

this sling cost me like 24 bucks! thats less than a NICE camera strap look for a 1 point rifle sling

and also, i don't know if you were just using the terms interchangeably, but just to be specific, its a sling not a neck strap. You wear it cross-body and your camera hangs to the side out of the way, and when you bend over, you can swing it behind you where it wont smack into anything and both of your hands are still free.

    here's the basic idea
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZUOopQM9230

i've been using the sling idea for over a year now. i made my first one myself, it was very similar to the one shown in the video with the sliding d ring and all, my second one was just a nice LowePro strap with both ends connected to the same point and extended long enough to be slung, and my latest, and favorite is this. I never bought the official Sniper strap or one of the manufactured ones because they just cost too much, and honestly, you don't need the sliding d ring, i never miss it, ant the shoulder pad is more of an annoyance, it always slips out of place.

Also, i chose to connect mine to the shutter side ring because i am right handed, the camera hangs to my right, and when i reach down for it, the hand grip side is already facing up. When i put it up to my face, the strap is out of the way, it dosn't have to cross over behind the camera body.

in the future i will change out the little ring that the strap clips on to, the factory one is so small. I fumbled my D300s one time and the strap saved it, i didnt realize it till the end of the night but the ring that the strap hooked on to was completly unraveled! the camera actually had enough weight to un curl the key ring into a hook shape! I changed it out for a much thicker stronger one. I should never have that issue with this strap since it has the built in bungee, but i don't mind taking extra precautions.
