Is This Over Processed?

I'm still finding my way around Photoshop. I've learned so far that, I've got a whole lot to learn.:D

Seems to me there is a fine line between good post processing and going to far. I'm kind of on the fence with this one. The woman had really blotchy skin and the boy was perfect. Tried to find a balance but I'm almost thinking the boy looks too over "worked".

Thoughts?

The eyes on both along with the boy's skin is a bit much for me. Something else that bugs me a little is the fact that they're looking in 2 different directions.

Well, to me, the woman looks fine (though the eyes are a bit overdone) but the boy's skin looks Barbie-ish. Can you dial him back a bit and leave the lady as is?

Wow, that pretty much sums up my feelings on the processing. Thanks for confirming my thoughts.

I'm sure what you suggest can be done, now, I just have to figure out how!mwink.gif

    ....and the learning process continues!

Layer and masks. Really quite easy. If you can do what you did, you've got the job 80% done.

It depends on how you wanted it to look really (not deliberately being unhelpful here :)). It makes me think of bugsy malone. It has that slightly soft toned look. Brown eyes are a pita, you have colour in them which is great. You haven't killed detail (the boys eyebrows are sharp) other than in the skin which tbh goes with the look for me.
It looks like you got the look you wanted and didn't push it too far (which I guess is what you wanted to know) for that look. It's well executed, the lighting highlights the boys cheek bones and facial profile. The processing is complimentary and doesn't detract from a nice portrait of a handsome young man and a graceful lady.

Thanks for the positive comments and critique.

I like everything about it, but the boys skin still bothers me. I think I will try to pull off what Icebear suggested and compare the two.

    Note to Darren:
I understand your issue about each persons eyes focusing on two different things. I shot this with them each focused on the same spot and then this one focused on slightly different spots. The first looked too contrived to me, where this one is much more interesting and has a bit of a candid feel to it, at least in my opinion. It was the one I liked better.

Yeah he looks a tad soft but if you hadn't mentioned it I was ok with it because there is a glow added to the over all photo it kind of works.
What I noticed is that he looks much bright than she does. He was sitting closer to the light and it shows. I think if you lightened up her hair, just a bit, it would even out.

Normally I don't like the soft focus look as it's a crutch for an already OOF image. I don't think it's bad here with the story being told, but the eyes do need to be sharpened up some.

I think I like this better on the boy, but I kinda miss the "glow" on the woman. Think I'll try one more when time allows.
