Nikon 70-200 Tripod Collar?

Today, my D7000 and 70-200 took a nasty spill. The camera took a far worse beating, but the lens didnt come out completely pristine. 2 scratches got put in the tripod collar. Not anything bad, but noticeable. I was wondering if the tripod collar comes completely off, or does it just rotate. I tried to get it off, but couldnt get it and dont wanna cause any more trouble for myself.

I suppose its a good thing my lens didnt sustain any serious damage, as it took me a while to find one in perfect shape. But, I sure wish I had somethin better than a D5000 to fall back on in the mean time lol.

Sorry to hear of this misfortune.

Nikon made a bunch of 70-200mm versions. It would be helpful to know exactly which model you have.

Umm, its a 70-200 f/2.8 VRI. If that helps any. Im not sure what other kinda info to give lol.

Ya, everything was goin awesome up until that point. Im just dreading the repair bill, or a new body.

I don't believe that the tripod collar is designed to be user serviceable or easily removed. The foot can be removed and replaced however, if that's what was damaged.

I see. I was plannin on takin the lens in when I take the body in for service. Maybe Ill have it replaced then.

I had the foot off when the camera fell, its unharmed. The marks are in the collar above the locking screw.

    Thanks for the replies.
