Search in PW protected gallery - what am I missing ?

Hi,
Need some quick help on this one.
I'm using LR 3.4 on a Mac with the built in SM Publish service.
I have it set up to publish to my pro account. I am publishing to a password protected gallery.
The current set of photos I am trying to upload have filenames that start with " Camera1_xxx " "Camera15_xxx " and the like. Lots of cameras and lots of shots. They are all jpegs.
I uploaded these to the SM gallery. Works fine. But then when I try to do a search for " Camera1 " in the SM gallery I get zero returns. I've tried " Camera1_ " and " camera1 " " camera1_ " and so on.
So I went back to LR and added the camera number of each file to its keywords. So now all of the camera1 files have " camera1 " as a keyword.
Uploaded the files again. Still can't search for them.
Help !! What am I missing to make the search bar in the upper right hand corner of the SM page work ?
As an aside this works fine in my non-password galleries - I can upload files and search for them. So it seems to be a funky PW gallery thing.

Insert some beating head against the wall cartoon thingy here.
This puts me in a bind. SM folks - please make this an option.
I quickly need a password protected gallery where folks can search and then buy prints. I've always used SM and really don't know the other services. Can anyone recommend one that can do this?
