When it comes to a Softshell Turtle, the question of it being a beauty or a ugly beast is an individual decision.

What do you think? .......

Ira, I have to say, this is one of the weirdest looking creatures I've ever seen, and you captured it in great detail! I don't think I'm leaning towards beauty exactly--it would look at home in the Star Wars bar, if you remember that scene. Thanks for posting! Best, Pam

Reminds me of a great old French saying: "It's so ugly, it's beautiful!" Wonderful, very unusual creature!

For a moment I thought somebody did experiments on a frog.

What a wild looking turtle. Love the first one, great comp, colors and sharpness! I think he is quite beautiful, majestic even!

Okay, that has -got- to be the weirdest looking critter I have ever seen. It even has warthogs beat, in the beauty stakes. Do all Softshell Turtles look like they need a diet and exercise program, or is it just this specimen that has been over-indulging in whatever turtles eat?

I absolutely love the first image, though. The composition is pretty much perfect.

Nah . . . no question. Only Charles Darwin (and maybe its mother) could call this butt-ugly critter beautiful :D.

    Spectacular captures.

Kind of reminds me of a cross between Jabba The Hutt and Rosanne Barr.

It is turtle nesting season here in Florida, and this is a female about 24" long coming out of the water to dig a nest. They all look fat when they are this big.
