Create a Gallery of Most Recent Photos

Hi there,
I'm trying to create a gallery of my 50 most recent photos and I'm not really sure how, or if, it's possible to go about doing this in an easy fashion.

I realize that there's a "Recent Photos" section on the homepage. I have that display my 6 most recent photos. But I also want a way for people to find more than 6 should they want to see what's new.

I tried to create a Smart Gallery but either I'm doing it wrong or it seems to be more difficult than I would have imagined. I set the smart gallery to "include" "My Photos" where the "Date" was "Uploaded" between a date way off in the future and a specific date in the past. I limited it to 50 photos. In my gallery settings I then set this to sort by Date Uploaded, descending.

No matter what order you specify the dates, it always selects the FIRST 50 photos uploaded on or after [date-in-the-past]. All I want/need to do is have it do this sort in the opposite direction (i.e. select the first 50 photos taken on or before [date-in-the-future], prior to selecting my images (and not after it has selected my images, like the Gallery Setting sort does).

This works, but every time I upload a new image I have to update the [date-in-the-past] to be a more recent date so that it doesn't exclude my most recent photo (since it's looking for 50 photos from [date-in-the-past].

Does anyone know of a better way to do this?

Additionally, is there a way to have my gallery URL not include the category (for example current it's http://www.aaronmphotography.com/Photography/Recent/ and i'd rather it just be http://www.aaronmphotography.com/Recent/)

You can set the "Recent Photos" box on a homepage to show a lot more than 6 photos ( I don't recall the limit, but mine shows 44 right now. However, Recent Photos has been broken for a long time now. It shows lots of photos that aren't recent uploads, but are instead copies made here on SmugMug. It's not supposed to be doing this. I wish it would get fixed. Anyway, on the rest, I'll have to let someone else help... don't have answers for all that.

I've been using the hack from this post to show photos for the last <n> days. It's referenced in several threads, and most folks have complained that the "gallery" is ordered with the oldest photos showing first, but I haven't found that to be true.

Thanks Denise. That's kind of what I'm doing with the Smart Gallery I setup but the smart gallery gives me a little more control (although I have to update the end date manually).

@WinsomeWorks: I realize the home-page can display a lot of photos but I want to keep my homepage clean and offer a separate place for people to find a larger listing of my recent photos. Additionally, I want my recent photos to be in a thumbnail + photo (default) layout and not just a thumbnail view.

@SmugMug: You'd think it would be so easy to just add a /recent/ page -- you already give us an RSS feed of the recent photos, why not just make something similar to the /Popular/!

I'm also using a Smart Gallery to do exactly that, changing the start date manually whenever I want to display a different set of recent photos. There's a request logged to add a Relative Dates selection for Smart Galleries; you might want to add your vote.
