There was some discussion of this a while back. Bottom line, cheapy worked
    just fine.

For the 20d, you need the one that's RS-80N3 compatible (http://cgi.ebay.com/Remote-Swich-for-Canon-EOS-10D-20D-1D-1V-RS-80N3-NEW_W0QQitemZ7540140503QQcategoryZ50489QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem).

    Gus,

Do you have the 580 EX? Oh and like everything else in the camera world, after you buy the flash you need to buy rechargable batteries, a charger, and a difuser. Oh yeah, I almost forgot, then you have to buy 2 or 3 more flashes to slave to the 580 EX. Then of course the flash stands and umbrellas / softboxes. Or you could just go buy a complete lighting kit for about 2k.

That ought to keep you spending well into 2006.

Good one Sam, I almost forgot about those!
I'm stil debating if I want to pick up a couple slaves :whip
or just go with a portable light rig that I can use for video shoots as well. But all that was on my list as well at some point, in pretty much the same order.
Either way, its great because you can pick up the pieces as you think you need them, find what you really like, and generally get most of it back selling it if you decide its not for you, although Sigmas seem to resale like a new car, drive them off the lot and its already worth 10% less... "L"uxury cars don't seem to have that problem mwink.gif

You can run into a minor problem with the button/switch on that cheap cable release. If you are not careful...and throw it in your bag, the button can get jarred around and slip out of place. It seems to have a flat spring metal contact that pushes the button back out..after depressing it. If you hit/bump this button with something inside your camera bag it can get knocked out of alignment. It's pretty easy to fiddle with the button to get it to sit correctly back in it's "slot". It would probably be much easier to take better care to keep it in a protective case/bag when not in use (while storing in camera bag). It was annoying the couple times the buttons jumped out of place. It was fixable....but you can see how cheaply and poorly this was designed. It does however seem to work very well fpr it's intended purpose. Just be careful not to knock that button out of track.

Have you thought about the wireless Canon remotes ? For $30 I picked one up granted I have to aim it at the receiver in the hand grip but it is easy to use without having to plug it in. (I have one of those as a back up) - Mike

I have got to get me one. I'm thinking of the 50mm f1.8mk2 and a remote switch for my chrissy pressie...Hopefully..I can see myself wasting a few rolls of film trying to get shots but oh well. How'd you fare with the hail the other day? i saw it on the news it looked pretty hairy:yikes We've had storms like that here before...Cricket ball sized hail is no fun.

by the way you forgot about reflectors, soft boxes, flashes, flash diffusers, light tents, light tables, backdrops, extention tubes, teleconverters.....oh portable hard drives....And you NEVER have enough lenses rolleyes1.gif

Just to let you know i attempted to buy a remote switch from hong kong off ebay and i never got it. after 7 weeks i managed to get my money back but not the rc-5 remote.

You always get a few idiots in a crowd. I remember the few big hail storms we had I think there have been 3 from memory...There were people like that here...My grandmother got hit by one that came through her skylight it was nasty. It has been threatening to storm all week but typically, it hasn't.

Still a good 4 months of the season left tho huh?rolleyes1.gif

Ebay...search canon remote (RS60 i think). That easy. Mine was about 20-30 clams. Its taken a few thousand shots now & still works perfectly.

Will that model work for my XT? Is it the same for both cameras?

No possible idea mate...i would assume it would though. What more can it be electrically but a simple switch that closes a cct to fire the shutter the same as the button does.

You know how companies are. Sometimes they want to squeeze the extra penny by making things more difficult. At least this time around, I think they're all compatible. I see a seller on Ebay selling an Adidt one, for $10 shipped. I think I'll do that!
