Themes and Google Chrome

I recently noticed that when browsing my smugmug site (http://www.hypercontrast.com) with Chrome, the gradient background of my default theme doesn't display. The whole thing is black.

Is this a known issue or something I'm doing wrong?

Thanks!

    I'm seeing the gradient here in Chrome 11 on this gallery on Windows Vista. Is there a specific gallery you see the issue in? Might be worth clearing your disk cache.

    Hmm, no go.

    Well, as long as it's working for site visitors.

    Thanks for checking!

    I see the gradient theme in FireFox & Vista in the galleries referenced. However, I do see a small display error in the theme, one that I've seen on many sites and also on my own. I've even seen it in some galleries that SmugMug has showcased. There's a bit of white line going down the center of the gallery, between the display photo & the thumbnails. It's a very thin streak, but it shouldn't be there & I've never been able to get any help for whatever is causing it. I have that same problem in my gradient galleries. Also, there's a bar (about 1/4" on my own screen) going down each side... sort of an edge that to my knowledge should not be there either. In my gradient galleries, I have this bar too, but it's only part-way down. I sure hope someone else can see this & find a fix, as I really dislike this in my galleries. ETA: Here's the thread where I asked about the problem: http://www.digitalgrin.com/showthread.php?t=182911 . Post #12 (the most recent in that thread) explains it, but it's really the same as I just explained right here.

    Odd. Maybe I'll go with a different theme and check back later.

    I think Gradient Grey works OK & is a similar theme to Carbonite. I don't understand though why I/we never find any response or answers on this from SmugMug or anyone else, since the things I mentioned are visible on so many sites, and I've also heard other people mention them here. It's really not great when even sites they're highlighting have this theme defect or whatever it is.

    I'm seeing the gradient just fine in Chrome:

    That issue is in your customizing, Anna Lisa, I posted in the thread there for you http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?p=1609593#post1609593

    It wasn't all answered, actually-- he still doesn't have an answer to why his looks that way to him whether logged in or out. And I know this is a community forum, but SmugMug folks often answer stuff that affects a lot of people, and this does. I don't know what you're seeing, but even your screenshots (both--here and in the other thread of my own site) show that the theme's display is not right. It doesn't have the one problem the OP here has, with comments not showing. But I do see the same white streak and the edges aren't the way they should be either. Don't you see how the gradient doesn't go all the way out to the edge? It used to, and it sure seems like it should-- it looks weird that the gradient stops and there's an all-black edge that wasn't like that in the past.

    Also, as I've stated multiple times, this Carbonite thing isn't just something I see on my site. I've seen it on plenty of others including this one and even featured ones. That tells me that if it's something wrong in my customization, it's something that's also wrong in other people's. And anyway, if it's customization, I'd still be thrilled to fix it if only I knew what it was. I don't always see the black-edge-bar going all the way; on my site it's 1/3 of the way down the sides.

    Happy to have you work with our customizing experts, please write our Support Heroes ATTN: Eric and we'll see if we can find out why your customizing is busting up the Carbonite Theme. Thanks!

    Umm, I'm thinking you didn't read all of my post or somethin' -- like I said, the issues I mentioned are there in your own screen shots (in both threads)-- edges maybe a little different, but not certainly not displaying correctly. I also said it's not just my customization, because other people's Carbonite also looks like this. I don't know if you're not seeing what I mean or what.... the gradient should go smoothly all the way to the edges, as it used to. Even in your screen-shot, it doesn't-- there's a black edge (about 1/4" on my screen). Yes, something in my customization puts a break in that edge, but the edge shouldn't be there; neither should the white streak that's also in your screen-shot.

    In Carbonite Stretchy, it never went to the edges, there's always a black border all the way up / down. But in your customizing, there's a break. Write Eric, we'll try and help, Anna Lisa.

    Ok, well, that border-- it's annoying because it looks wrong, so I hope someone will look into changing it. And the white streak? Other people mentioned it when it first appeared. Don't know if it's only the stretchy Carbonite or what, but it doesn't look good either. I will ask Eric about the rest. Thanks!

    I need a screenshot of the white streak, with gallery link, and browser please. Thanks.

    Like I said, Andy, you can see it right here in this thread, in your own screenshot. Also in the screenshot you posted in the other thread. It's in any carbonite galleries, mine & others. If you're not seeing it, look between the main photo preview pic & the thumbnails. In your screenshot, it's maybe more light grey or silver. It's worse some places than others. There's also a light dash just to the left of "Prev". That's worse some places than others as well. Anyway, I use FF 4.

    Add this to your CSS:

    .rightColumn {border: none !important;}

    for a specific gallery,

    .gallery_XXXXX .rightColumn {border: none !important;}
    thumb.gif

    ETA:
    .left_border {border: none !important;}
    will remove that other little bit that you don't like.

    These are easy questions that could be handled in the customizing forum or by writing us thumb.gif

    Andy, I've asked this same thing in the customizing forum several times already in the past many months. (this thread, since Nov.: http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=182911 ) You just posted an answer to the other part of my question in that very thread in the past 23 hrs. I don't understand.... I've said so many times that this isn't my own problem, as it's showing even in your own screen-shots from other people's sites, as well as mine. It's a Carbonite stretchy problem, evidently. Hard to see why everyone who has this should have the need to go fix it in their customization.... shouldn't it be a site-wide fix? I mean, sure, I'll try this; it just bugs me that it's looked at or fixed as my problem only. We will continue seeing this then on everyone else's sites as well, when gazillions of pages have this theme. I've seen other people ask & never get a solution to it. [ ETA: Yippee! the white streak is gone from all my Carbonites that I found so far, so thank you for that! I used this code that you provided: .rightColumn {border: none !important;} . I'll see if Eric has a solution for the Blue Lagoon problem or the unwanted side borders. I didn't get around to that earlier, as I'm living outside right now... planting season! ]

    We're not modifying Carbonite, or really any of the older themes, (prior to the themes we released about a year ago) ... we hope to have way better and more themes in the future that will be more suited to stuff that's in the works. But you, can always modify, as you did to remove the white line you didn't like :)
