I shot the Kentucky Derby yesterday and thought I would share some shots, the weather held out but the sun went behind the clouds for the big race.

    I like #3.

I'm REALLY surprised that a Kentuckian would have photoshopped/processed #4 that way. Grass on the track???? No rail for Calvin Borel???

I know it's nit picky, but your thread title says "Kentucky Derby". THE derby ain't on a turf track.

They have 14 races on the day of the Kentucky Derby, the race you see on dirt #7 was the from the first turn out of the gate #8 is when Animal Kingdom won. When you shoot an event like this your there from 7:00am until about 9:00pm. I did not think I had to name each race. There was three turf races and the rest were on dirt. Sorry I didn't try to miss llead you.

    Agree plus #4!

I was a little surprised too about the grass track for the Derby. But I read your post and understand. Must have been a long day but you got some great shot and hopefully fun memories.

I apologize for being snarky and for my careless and hasty judgements. I had a looonnnng day yesterday and was tired. I should've waited until today and was rested before I commented.

Not a problem and I really wasn't trying to sound like a jerk on my answer, I should have posted the dirt photos first but wasn't thinking that most people just see the one race on tv and not the day of events.

Thanks for looking though and taking the time to post!!

You're welcome. The biggest equine events I've ever shot were Burlington and WEG in Aachen in 2006. Had hoped to make it to Kentucky last year but couldn't land enough assignments to pay for the expenses :cry

Never had the opportunity to do the Derby. Maybe some day before I'm too old and crippledmwink.gif

I have to put it at the top of my list for the one of the most fun shoots I've shot. Hope some day to see you there, I'm definitely going back to shoot the infield.
