Saturday, was the 18th Annual Raptor Release for the University of Minnesota Raptor Center. The Raptor Center has nursed and brought back to health numerous eagles, hawks and falcons and sent them back to the wild. This past Saturday they release a total of three raptors (two Red-Tailed Hawks and a third bird that I'll need some help naming).

Here's a few images from the event.

The portrait images are of raptors that are not ready or will not be able to return to the wild.

Excellent images Adam. Those raptor centers do outstanding work rehabbing their charges. They sruvive to a larhe extent on donations form the public (hint, hint).

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

Great shots as usual. Were the portraits take through cage or glass? I really like the movement but would like a little more contrast on the release of the bird with the woman with the red shirt. Then again I am willing to bet that these are SOOC so there is not processing.

Also in terms of naming the Raptor, how about Steven after Mr. Spielberg that made Raptors so famous that they named a basketball team after them.

Excellent shots, Adam. I've never seen a kestrel portrait that close before. It must have been quite an experience to have attended that event. Glad you were there to capture the event and share it with us. thumb.gif

Thanks Harry. I know there is a similar center near you. They do great work and do survive mostly on donations.

Thanks Bradford. The portrait shots were neither behind glass or in cages. Some of them were handheld by the volunteers. These are for the most part SOOC.

Thanks Joel!! The volunteers basically parade the birds right by you so you can get a close shot.

Thanks. I'm not sure myself if it's a harrier or not.
