Hello all,

First posting.

I have a curious problem with slideshows, both on smugmug.com and embedded. The fact that there is a problem on smugmug.com leads me to believe that when this is resolved, then the embedded slideshows will start working as well.

I can open a friends SmugMug galleries and view as slideshow.

Last week, when I set up the two SmugMug accounts that I am using, all was well and the embedded links worked a charm as well.

Now slideshows in my accounts, both in SmugMug and embedded, show a blank screen.

I have cleared cache, updated Adobe Flash Player and checked on another computer, but still no joy.

Browser / AFP combo tried:
Chrome 11.0.696.65, AFP 10.2.154.28
Firefox 4.0.1, AFP 10.2.159.1
IE 9.0.8112.16421AFP 10.2.159.1
FireFox 3.6.15, AFP 10.2.159.1 (2nd computer)
IE 8.0.760.1.17514, AFP 10.2.153.1 (2nd computer)

This isn't a solution, but another clue. Even the slideshow view and full-screen slideshow view don't work on those galleries entirely within Smugmug so something about those galleries or their settings is keeping slideshows anywhere on your site from working. I see the same issue in Chrome, IE9 and Firefox on your galleries and don't see it on my galleries so it must be something related to your gallery or site config.

    Thanks guys
John, I tried going into the icepix.smugmug.com gallery and choose SmugMug default settings, but no joy.

Andy, I await with baited breath, full of optimism.

My guess is that the problem is caused by the non-pure-ascii characters like í in your image filenames which Smugmug now puts into the image URL and then the slideshow isn't handling them properly. Just a guess, but seems like a possibility.

Well I'll be darned. John, I've removed the images with Icelandic local characters from the icepix gallery. Lo and behold! I've got a slideshow. :o)
    Lot's of thanks.

Andy, the culprit seems to have been identified. A foreign (to you ;o) character filter may be called for.

    Cheers,

jfriend is correct, the problem is related to escaped characters in the image request. The meat of the problem is a bug in the flash player:

    https://bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/FP-5580

that is still there even after I update to 10.2, I found a fix involving setting an additional property on Image objects and am working on getting it through testing.
