Moving Pics from one gallery to another? ...

Hi Grinners! :wave

Can I safely move images from one gallery to another without affecting their linking into blogs?

My fear is that the image is linked to a particular gallery in SmugMug, and if I change that location within SmugMug that they might somehow disappear from the blog?

I'm sure this question has surely been asked before, however I would like to customize my collection in SmugMug, so that some images are 'Public' and some are not accessible to the public, so I want to generate a new Public folder and just put some selected images into this for viewing, but I'm afraid that because I have them all linked 'somewhere', that they'll disappear because the exact location has altered?

.... or

Do the links attach to the original image, regardless of where that image resides within my SmugMug account and in which gallery? Therefore I can re-arrange and re-arrange without fear of ever having to re-link these back into Adventure Rider for example?

Thanking you in advance.

Great forum by the way! :clap
I've been a SmugMug user for a few years now, however ultimately to link my images into my Ride Report on Adventure Rider. The thread is 'massive' and has been ongoing since 2005 and I'd like not to 'muck it up' in any way:

Now that I've just gone 'Pro' to enable Video uploads from my new GoPro camera, I'm just in the process of 'tidying up' what I already have uploaded and perhaps start to put my SmugMug Galleries to better and broader use.

Cheers.

You are safe to move your images (the direct image links will continue to work). But, you may want to consider a different strategy for the future. I decided long ago that I wanted my forum postings and my public galleries on Smugmug to be completely different so I was always free to delete anything in my public galleries without affecting forum postings. Or, the reverse, I wanted to be able to pull-down a forum posting without affecting my public gallery display.

The only safe and flexible way to do that is to not mix the two. So, I never post a single image link in a forum that is in my public galleries on Smugmug. If I want to post something in a forum, I put a separate copy of that photo in an unlisted gallery on Smugmug. Then, I can separately manage my forum postings and my public gallery display without one affecting the other. Yes, sometimes I have to do a little extra work to do this, but it gives me a lot more flexibility and less breakage in the future if I want to change my public galleries.

I do the same thing that John recommends. I have found that is easier for management. I also put into the caption where the image is linked to so I can remember later on. This approach has also helped with understanding my google analytics better. I can easily discern what is from blog/forum links and what is people browsing.
