First problem with Canon 7D

I received my 7D on Monday and the first issue I have is with the power switch. If the camera has been off for a while it will not power up when the switch is turned to the on position. :cry

I have to remove the battery and reinsert and then it will power up just fine.

Once I start using it I can turn it off and then back on and that works fine. But if it sits for a while like 30 minutes or an hour it will not power back up again.

Emailed Canon and they said I need to send it in and they can repair it. But at this point I am planning on returning it to Best Buy (benefit of buying local - even though I had to order it online) to avoid the shipping costs and ask for an exchange.

The only benefit I see with sending it to Canon is they could take a close lok at it and make sure everything is working properly. Is that really worth much?

The downside is I have to ship it then wait ten to 14 days or whatever to get it repaired and sent back.

So, it seems better to return it to BBY within their 14 day return window. Any thoughts?

Actually this is my first real problem with any Canon camera and this is my fifth one (2 P&S's and 3 DSLRs). So on average it may not be too bad but it sure is disappointing after getting excited that it had arrived.

    I would return it.

I might consider repair if they offered me a whole bunch of money or a L-lens or something... but if I have to pay the price, I demand the full 100% product and not a refurbished unit.

    cheers,
    Nick.

As long as you have not registered the camera with Canon as the owner you are generally better off returning the camera to the vendor for an exchange.

Weird. We've never heard of that one. Like Ziggy said, return it.

Thanks guys. That's what I thought. I plan to return it for an exchange or store credit (an order another one).
