Some may remember I posted images from this site during the breeding season last year. Well, this years season has just started with the arrival of the Common Tern over the last couple of weeks. This is the period where the birds are seeking out a bit of territory for themselves on the islands in the lagoon. As usual, they have to vie for space with their usual neighbours the Black-headed Gulls. This can lead to aerial disputes.

The Tern is a very swift bird in flight which easily outmanoeuvres the Black-headed Gull. These were very difficult images to get due to the background and speed of action so please excuse the quality.

Peter, I thought these were good, and especially considering you were getting more than one bird in focus and in your frame. I also like your explanation--it is fun to learn about birds we don't have in our area. thumb.gif

Good set with a high degree of difficulty.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

Getting both the tern and the gull in focus against such a busy background was quite an accomplishment! Well done!

Thank you Peter. That was one of the really hard parts of making this shoot. Plus of course the sheer speed of the birds made it difficult in keeping them in the frame at 500mm focal length.
